Blake Angliss Bounces Back To Top Five Double At Oulton Park

Blake Angliss fought back after a nightmare start to the second round of the 2026 British GT Championship and narrowly missed out on a podium finish at Oulton Park this past weekend (23-25 May).
Angliss headed into the Spring Bank Holiday weekend event in Cheshire looking to put behind him a heart-breaking start to the season at Silverstone last month, when an impressive podium challenge in the flagship three-hour Silverstone 500 race was derailed by contact from another car.
The trip to Oulton Park presented a different challenge for the Coventry-based racer, with a pair of one-hour ‘sprint’ races taking place on Monday. He once again lined-up alongside British GT newcomer Revie Lake in a Mahiki Racing-prepared McLaren Artura GT4.
An unfortunate incident for Lake in testing ahead of the event meant the team had to loan a different car for the Oulton weekend. When Angliss and his team-mate took to the track in official testing on Friday, it immediately became apparent there was a lack of power in this Artura.
Despite the team’s best efforts, the issues couldn’t be resolved for Saturday. With the car running slowest of all in the speed traps, the drivers were powerless to avoid qualifying towards the bottom of the times in both sessions. This led to the team taking the bold decision to make wholesale changes.
Utilising the event’s day off on Sunday, they took the car back to base and replaced a number of important components including the engine and the gearbox. In exchange for the championship’s permission to make these changes, the #84 car would have to start both of Monday’s races from the pitlane.
The improvement was clear to see from the off as Angliss took the start of race one. After pushing hard to overcome the deficit to the field caused from the pitlane start, he was able to go on the offensive and ended up gaining three positions in the GT4 field before the mid-race pitstop.
Lake continued their forward momentum and ultimately narrowly missed out on a podium as he slipped to fourth in the closing minutes. That result gave the #84 crew lots of confidence though and the teenage talent put in a strong opening stint to race two as he fought his way into the top ten.
Angliss jumped in for the second half of the race and emerged from the pitstop window in sixth. Issues for other cars promoted him to fourth and in the final ten minutes, he was part of a superb three-way battle for the final spot on the overall GT4 podium.
Despite a valiant effort, the YorPower, Transend UK and TrigPoint Security backed driver had to settle for fifth at the end. He now turns his attention to the third round of the 2026 British GT season at the world-famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium next month (20-21 June).
Blake Angliss: “Considering how the weekend was going, to salvage a couple of top five finishes and a decent haul of points from the races is pretty great. It’s all down to the brilliant efforts of the Mahiki Racing team, who worked so, so hard to get the event back on track for us.
“Up until Monday, it had probably been my toughest weekend in the British GT Championship so far. We were absolutely nowhere on Friday and Saturday, watching cars just pull away from us on the straights, and it’s pretty demoralising when there is nothing you can do as a driver to improve it.
“The team did a phenomenal job on Sunday to change almost everything inside the car, and you instantly felt the improvement when we shook the car down in warm up. That gave us some confidence, but we knew we still had a huge mountain to climb starting both races from the pitlane.
“We gave it everything we had though and it was good fun getting to pull off some overtakes and fight our way up the order in both. I was trying my hardest to grab third place in the last race but couldn’t quite force them into a mistake to get an opportunity for a move.
“We’ll absolutely take the results we achieved though. We’ve got some points on the board now and we roll into Spa-Francorchamps next determined to get a big result. It’s a longer race with lots of points on offer, so let’s see if we can fight our way back up the championship standings.”
