Blake Angliss Produces Class-Leading Pace At Spa-Francorchamps

Motorsport rising star Blake Angliss saw an unfortunate mechanical issue thwart an impressive bid for victory in the third round of the 2026 British GT Championship at Spa-Francorchamps this past weekend (20/21 June).

Angliss and team-mate Revie Lake made the trip to Belgium hoping to put a difficult start to the season behind them and score a big result around one of the most famous and popular circuits in the world, however they once again saw bad luck cruelly befall them.

With Mahiki Racing making the decision to bring their racing programme to a close, leading team Paddock Motorsport are now running the #84 McLaren Artura GT4 for the rest of the season. For Angliss, this means reuniting with the team that he made his British GT debut with in 2024.

The third round of the season came as part of the Spa Speedweek festivities, a week prior to the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa. For the event, British GT would share track time with Championnat de France FFSA GT, bringing together a massive 54-car grid for Sunday’s two-hour race.

Angliss and Lake enjoyed a positive start in testing on Friday, putting their McLaren up in fourth position in the GT4 timesheets. They carried that quick pace into free practice the next day, going fastest in the opening session and second quickest in the next one.

That set them up perfectly for qualifying. Angliss was out first and the Coventry-based racer went a brilliant third fastest. Lake then joined him in lapping within the top five in his session, with their great lap times combining to secure them second on the grid.

The duo were feeling confident heading into the race, but knew it was going to be a busy one with the larger grid. Lake was in the cockpit for the rolling start and a rapid launch propelled him into the lead heading through the fearsome Eau Rouge corner for the first time.

The teenage talent went on to comfortably lead the opening half an hour, before disaster struck. A gearbox problem forced him to stop on circuit to reset the car, and while he was able to continue, their Artura was left with only two working gears; third and fifth.

At that stage, the sole focus was on nursing the car home to the chequered flag to try and salvage some championship points at the least. Angliss got them to the finish, but the YorPower, Transend UK and TrigPoint Security backed driver sadly ended up one position shy of the points.

Blake Angliss: “We’re desperate to work out what we have to do to get a bit of good luck this year! It’s been a ridiculous season so far, with issues outside of our control at every event, and this is the hardest one to take so far as we know we had the pace to win the race.

“It’s been good working with Paddock Motorsport again. They gave us a quick race car from the off and our lap times in free practice were really promising. To convert that into a front-row start from qualifying was great and we were feeling good going in to the race.

“Revie started brilliantly to lead a British GT race for the first time with a good gap to those behind. Sadly it unravelled from there though and it ended up feeling like a long hour for me with only two gears to play with. It will take a while to get over this one, but we’re happy with our pace at least.”

The British GT Championship returns to the UK for the remainder of the season, starting with a pair of one-hour races on the Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk (15-16 August).
