Blake Angliss showcased his pace and potential during a challenging return to racing in the British GT Championship at Spa-Francorchamps this past weekend (21/22 June).

The championship’s annual overseas meeting provided the Coventry-based rising star with the opportunity to race at Spa-Francorchamps for the first time, with the 4.35-mile blast through the Ardennes Forest widely-regarded as one of the best circuits in the world.

After 12 months on the sidelines, Angliss was determined to make an immediate impact on his return to the competitive GT4 ranks. He knew he faced a steep learning curve across the event though, as he adapted to both a new circuit and car, with the team’s newly-acquired Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo.

Angliss and team-mate Steven Lake got limited running under their belt in Friday testing as they bedded in the new car, before some teething issues lost them more track time in free practice and left them playing catch-up to the rest of the field heading towards qualifying.

They made a big step forward in the pre-qualifying session as they started to unleash the potential of the Ginetta. Their hard work culminated in a good qualifying result, with the combined efforts of Angliss and Lake securing them third in the Pro-Am class on the grid.

Lake started in the cockpit of the #69 Ginetta and produced a strong opening stint, consolidating their top three class position. Angliss jumped in at the 40-minute mark and immediately starting matching the pace of the class-leading Ginetta as he highlighted his impressive raw speed.

As the race developed, a couple of unfortunate penalties for pitstop and track limits infringements halted their challenge for a class podium. Angliss continued to impress though and the lap times he produced highlighted the potential he has to take into future rounds.

Blake Angliss: “We knew heading into the weekend that it would be a challenging one, with the team only receiving the cars for the first time the night before testing. That meant there were some teething issues with the car, which unfortunately cost us quite a bit of track time in testing and practice.

“The Mahiki Racing team and Ginetta worked tirelessly through the weekend though and we really made some positive steps forward through qualifying and the race. It was a relatively uneventful race, but getting a full race distance under our belts gives us crucial knowledge and experience of the car.

“After a year on the sidelines, it was fantastic to go racing again and a huge thank you to the team and my partners for the opportunity. I’ve got a lot more to give behind the wheel and as we get more track time in the car, I’m excited to show everyone exactly what I can do.”

Angliss, who races with the support of TOPDON UK and Transend UK, is now preparing for the next round of the 2025 British GT Championship season which takes place next month (12/13 July) at the Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk.
